ABOUT DEF2020

The 3rd Digital Economy Forum (DEF2020) hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance will be held virtually on September 11.

DEF is a global forum focused on discussing the future of Digital Economy. Since 2018, DEF has been partnering with expert opinion leaders from both inside and outside of Korea to expand awareness and share knowledge on the digital economy on a global scale.

In DEF2020, we will continue our discussion on the digital economy with the theme .

In the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic situation, the digital economy is experiencing extraordinary growth and innovation, shaping the future of human life and technology. In this year’s forum, we will explore the current changes and foreseeable future for the digital economy, focusing on Post-Corona Digital Transformation & Policy, Entertainment & New Media, Work & Job, and Healthcare with Peter Diamandis, the founder of the X-Prize Foundation, The Miilk, Aaltoes, ITU, and WHO, all leaders of the current global digital economy.

This session explores the future of the digital economy in a post-corona world examines the role of government and regulatory implications.

One of the hardest-hit industries by COVID-19 is entertainment; concerts and performances stopped and theaters closed. How can the entertainment industry find a breakthrough? The era of co-existence with COVID-19 presents new opportunities for the entertainment industry to evolve. Media consumption has also drastically changed from the past to get information about COVID-19. This session predicts how the future of entertainment and media will change.

Unicorn Startup and Innovation in The Digital Economy Era
November 21-22, 2019
Seoul Dragon City Hotel

DEF2019 discussed how to foster unicorn startups and innovation ecosystem.

Opened with the keynote speeches by Christine Tsai, the CEO of a Silicon Valley-based global venture capital called 500 Startups, and by Bindi Karia, an innovation expert in the European ecosystem, the forum was followed by presentations and discussions by representatives of unicorn startups from around the world.

Also, “Korea-ASEAN Special Session” gathered the leaders of unicorn startups representing the ASEAN to share their insights, such as Nexticorn, Gojek, and Bukalapak.

DEF2018


The Driving Force of Innovation: Platform Economy & Entrepreneurship
November 22-23, 2018
Seoul Conrad Hotel

DEF2018 was the very first step of DEF.

It brought the public and private sectors together to discuss the driving force of the digital economy for innovative growth, with a particular focus on platform economy and entrepreneurship.

At DEF2018, the keynote speeches were made by Geoffrey Parker, the author of Platform Revolution, Han Seong-sook, the CEO of Korea’s top online platform Naver, and Sophie Viger, Managing Director of École 42, a French computer programming school leading IT innovation. The following sessions offered a venue to share the prospects of platform business and the success cases of innovative growth.
