ABOUT DEF
The 6th Digital Economy Forum(DEF2023) is set to take place on September 6th,
organized by of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and hosted by the Korea Startup Forum.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am Jake Park, Chairman of KoreaStartupForum.
‘6th DIGITAL ECONOMY FORUM’ that is hosted by Ministry of Strategy and Finance and organized by KoreaStartupForum is being held in Gangnam, Seoul on September 6th.
DEF is a global forum that predicts the future of digital economy and proposes the direction, and since 2018, many opinion leaders and startups from home and abroad gathered to share one another’s knowledge and carried out discussions to promote advancement of digital economy.
Digital economy has already been naturally incorporated into our daily lives. Digital economy is evolving more and more rapidly and creating new opportunities even amidst a complex set of crises including the slowdown in the global economic growth and intensified social instability. This year, in particular, an era of new AI revolution that was triggered by Generative AI was ushered in, and in addition, there is a fierce competition across the globe to lead in digital innovation in various areas including advanced bio or climate tech. Korea is no exception. On top of start-ups, that are the main players of digital player, government, conglomerates and small and medium-sized enterprises are picking up speed in innovation while doing their utmost to secure, transform and pioneer their digital infrastructure.
As such, in this year’s DEF, we would like to invite experts from various industries to hear their opinions under the theme of ‘true innovation to expand growth potential’. We would like to review the national strategic industry based on digital economy and carry out discussions about the policies or social mechanisms that should be established to successfully implement digital economy and society. The influence of digital economy on the overall society will be analyzed to ponder about the tasks and solutions required to become a ‘first-class country’.
Keynote speakers include Richard Yonck, the author of the global bestseller of ‘Future Minds’, ‘Heart of the Machine’ and futurist, and CTO Hwal-suk Lee of Upstage, a Korean AI start-up that received the spotlight by winning the 1st place over global companies in the Global AI Competition. Speakers will be sharing opinions about the latest technology trend for innovative growth, the influence the technology will have on the global digital economy, and the future we have to be prepared for.
The next five thematic sessions consist of technology and politics tracks. In the technology track, we are planning to predict the development direction of the digital economy centering on AI, digital healthcare and eco-friendly advanced technology. In the politics track, participants will be able to engage in discussions where experts from private and public sectors will put their heads together to talk about the ‘plan to vitalize the start-up ecosystem’ and ‘strategy to take the next leap into becoming a first-class country’.
Following last year, we also prepared a pitching session that allows participants to hear stories from the start-up sites. I hope you will have a chance to see the vision that our generation should be aimed towards in the future through the cases of start-ups that are leading innovation in 3 technology areas that are covered in the thematic sessions.
I hope that all participants of this forum will gain meaningful insights that will be of aid in preparing for the future. Thank you.
